Course Information
Description Introduction to the use of common processing equipment.
Prerequisites PTAC-1302 or Concurrent
Learning Outcomes CSLOs:
1. Describe the basic functions of process equipment. (PSLO 1); measured by embedded test questions, class discussion, and demonstration on actual process equipment

2. Describe related scientific principles associated with process equipment. (PSLO 1); measured by embedded test questions, class discussion, and demonstration on actual process equipment

3. Identify process equipment components. (PSLO 2); measured by embedded test questions, class discussion, and demonstration on actual process equipment.

4. Demonstrate ability to use terminology to describe components of process equipment. (PSLO 2); measured by embedded test questions, class discussion, and demonstration on actual process equipment.

5. Demonstrate operation of basic equipment components used in the process industries. (PSLO 3); measured by embedded test questions, demonstration on actual process equipment

6. Demonstrate safety procedures used during cleaning out, isolation, and repair of process equipment. (PSLO 4); measured by embedded test questions, demonstration on actual process equipment.

7. Demonstrate ability to identify all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material, Demonstrates a full understanding of the reading. (PSLO 5); measured by embedded test questions, pre- and post-test

Determination of
Final Grade
DETERMINATION OF FINAL GRADE: Chapter Tests-33%, Quizzes/homework/labs-34% Final Exam-33%
1. You will have 4 Major Tests and a Final Exam in this class. All tests and the exam are taken on a specified day. There are "NO RETAKES". Makeup test will be allowed if absence is excused per the absence policy. If you miss "ONE" Test, your lowest current test score will be given for that test, ONLY if you missed the test due to an EXCUSED absence. If you miss more than one test, you will receive a zero for each additional test you miss. If you are involved in Academic Dishonesty, you will NOT be allowed to replace the zero with your current test average. Taking the Final Exam is required to complete the course. When a test is handed out students are not allowed to leave the class until test is completed and turned in.
2. Homework must be completed on time,each assignments have a specified day and date if you do not complete your homework as asigned Black board will close the assignment out at the specified times given for each Homework assignment. This will be recorded as a 0
3. Each time you are caught on your Cell Phone in the classroom or lab, will result in the student having 4 points deducted from their major test points total at the end of the semester.
4. Students that are disruptive in class will be asked to leave and counted absent for the day.
Course Policies
Instructor Policies
Attendance Policy Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Missing a day of lecture can possible cause you to drop a letter grade on tests.
1. Tardiness: Tardiness, for lectures or labs, will result in 2 point per tardy being deducted from your test points total at the end of the semester.
2. Absences: NOTE: Excused absences (verifiable) are only allowed for, an illness that requires a hospital stay or a death in your immediate family, excluding aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 5 absences=drop 1 letter grade, 7 absences=drop 2 letter grades, 9-absences=drop 3 letter grades, 11 absences=F
3. A student with Perfect attendance will receive 15 bonus points added to your test points total at the end of the semester.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

  1. No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom.

  2. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission.

  3. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
